Out of Print and Unavailable

In late 2023, Kléo pitched the idea for us to write a short series together about the projects I finished between 2003 and 2015 that were, at that time, both out of print and not available anywhere online – it seemed like a novel idea at first, since most of these albums and short films are ones that hardly anyone ever heard or saw, and there aren’t many that I plan on ever reissuing.

However, after I reluctantly agreed to try it out with him, and we started working on these bits in the summer of 2024, it turned out to be a much more interesting project than I’d expected – what began as some mundane, bureaucratic notes about why these albums and short films are no longer available quickly turned into a much more descriptive and insightful series of paragraphs about the roles these various projects played in my development as an artist and as a person.

All this comes together to paint a whole picture of the origins and the paths that led me to make a lot of the music, short films, and other works that are available and are much more widely known than these – it goes into much more detail about my creative process and the context of what I’ve done for wider audiences than what I’ve written about my works that are actually more widely available.

So this can be interesting for fans who happen to have copies of some of these works or who remember them from a screening or a gig or from when they were online or from hearing about them somewhere, and for people who were involved in the making of them – but it also might be interesting for people who simply want to learn more about where my work comes from.

They’re told from my perspective, and Kléo and I wrote them as a duo – in part because this was something I had a lot of “writer’s block” around, and I needed that extra push to really put pen to paper.

All in all, I’d say we had an interesting time working on this series – it was painful to revisit some of the moments from my childhood and teenage years, and other memories were really fun and inspiring to relive in this way – so I hope you get something good out of reading these!
