Cannonball Statman in a community garden in NYC’s East Village, Summer 2014 (Full Set)

Camera: Peter Dizozza.

Part of an NYC antifolk event organized and hosted by Kirk Kelly. Kirk was one of the 3 founding fathers of the original antifolk scene in the 1980s along with Lach and Roger Manning, though the term “antifolk” was actually coined by Cindy Lee Berryhill! Lach had initially wanted to call it “New Folk”.

This gig was during a time when Cannonball almost always performed in the “Frankenguitar” tuning that he’d set up so he could play guitar with only one finger while he was recovering from his hand injury in 2012. Since he was borrowing someone else’s guitar for this gig, he performed a rare selection of songs in standard tuning while still keeping with the strumming style that was common for him in this era, which made for this performance having a unique guitar sound compared to any other Cannonball gig.
