Raridades: El Bol de Xóchi

Raridades is the last in the series that my friend Kléo and I have been compiling and releasing over the past year or so in digging through the archives of my earlier music and other artwork that my parents had been kindly storing in their home.

There’s a lot of variety on this one – some of the tracks are bare bones acoustic folk-punkish demos recorded on cassette, including some from my first band The Band Of The Land circa 2002-’04, and others that I recorded solo in the early 2010s – others are never-before-heard songs that were recorded with a conventional rock and roll band setup, sometimes with me playing all the instruments – and then there are a bunch of rare live recordings of songs you might be more familiar with, and some completely experimental stuff from ethereal, dreamlike instrumentals to harsh, abrasive tracks bordering on anti-music.

The last one, “Resident (2011)”, is a song I wrote in my late teens that I’m trying to teach myself how to play again, but I still haven’t been able to figure out what the tuning is. If you can figure it out, let me know what it is and I’ll probably buy you a bagel next time we’re in the same place: Jesse (at) Cannonball Statman (dot) com
